About the project and the "Grand Opening"
The young people from Leading Link in Bedlington together with professional artists have been working since last Summer to create the first 11 of 14 art installations on a one-mile art trail within the popular Plessey Woods Country Park.
The installations include Enchanted Hollow, Quarry Henge, Bog House Swamp, Mystical Avenue, OXO, Marra and his Bone, Cherokee Whee, Why Eye, Wood U Play and The Wise One
In addition to the main art installations there are owls pointing the way around the trail using their wings and many animals that have been carved by the young people and other surprises along the way.
The whole project, a partnership between Leading Link and Northumberland County Council, has been funded by Sita Trust to enable the young people to put their community project into action and the Foyer Federation have been running a Project Management course alongside to give them the added skill and recognition via certificates for all their hard work. The young people have learned lifelong skills such as event management, willow weaving, wood carving, budgeting, time planning and team work.
The art installations are permanent and can be seen anytime and most can be seen from the bridle paths for disabled access.
County Councillor, Valerie Tyler and Kath Nisbet, Civic head of Northumberland Council will be officially opening the art trail on 2nd April 2016 at 1pm and Leading Link and the young people have organised family activities to make the event a great day out for all the family.
This includes entertainment from local talent, outdoor activities with the Falcon rugby coaches, James Watling’s Kickboxing, smoothie bikes and bungee running, Beat the Goalie, children’s rides, a sizzling Easter BBQ and other refreshments, a bunny hunt which follows the art trail and an arty marquee. Art activities include lantern making and ‘Make Your Mark in the Park’ where you can help to create a cobbled street on the meadow by painting a cobbled stone which will be placed permanently in ‘Plessey Avenue’.
Radio Northumberland is also going to be there and are operating live off the TyneIdols shuttle bus. Punk DJs New Wave Newman and Punky Paul will be on the bus and playing a selection of music.

Where to park:
Bedlington Schalksmuhle Road Bedlington NE22 5DW (Tesco Car Park Bedlington) and Renolit in Nelson Industrial Est, Cramlington. Here you can hop on to either the TyneIdols yellow double decker or the Premier buses.
NB. If you want to catch a Park and Ride with your dog you must head for Schalksmuhle Road in Bedlington to catch the double decker as there are guide dogs only allowed on the Premier Coaches. This is a free shuttle service but do watch out for donation boxes as Charity, Leading Link have paid for the buses due to the overwhelming interest of the public but had not budgeted for three buses! However, Leading Link would also like to thank TyneIdols and Premier coaches for giving heavily discounted prices for their services to help contribute to the day.
Please be careful where you park. Traffic wardens will be there on the day so please don't make your car an unnecessary obstruction. Please respect residents living near by.
Lantern Parade:
You can also see the park a little differently if you arrive at night. Leading Link have been visiting schools around the area to make lots of lanterns and you will get further opportunities to make them on 2nd April at the launch event. However, we are expecting this to be VERY busy and so due to the demand, Leading Link have secured a further two dates in the park on 5th April and 7th April and you can make a lantern here between 5.30pm – 7pm. There will be hot drinks available on all three nights but we believe the additional 2 days will be a lot less hectic!
There will be three lantern parades over three days and all will be between 7pm – 8.30pm. There is a small cost to the lanterns of £2 but if you bring your Children’s University passport it is free due to the funding from ISOS Housing. It is also free if you bring evidence of living in ISOS Housing.
Depending on the weather on each evening, the trail route may change but we will be officially staying on the bridal pathways for health and safety reasons.

Be a social butterfly
Pram & wheelchair access
You can get around 3/4 of the way and you can see everything but you would have to go back the same way rather than the circle the trail takes you along.
Most of it is on bridal paths until you get to the quarry and then it's quite a few steps up to get back to the beginning. There will be a map out soon that will show the part route for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
